And she's gone...

Just like that and in a whirlwind Anne came for her shortest trip ever. She arrived on Friday morning and probably as I write this, Amy and Kenny are dropping her off at the airport. She came to be in Jennie and Jason's wedding and that's about all she did. But it was fun and I hope she visits again soon!

Preparing...

Had my appointment at the travel clinic today in Sioux Falls. Three shots and two prescriptions later (and 1 booster in 6 months) I'm set for Kenya!

Mini Vacay

We took advantage of this long weekend and a wedding in Rapid City to take a mini vacation. We decided to take the newly finished Corvette for a nice ride across South Dakota. It was actually a much nicer ride than either one of us thought... those bucket seats are nice and comfy! We headed out at 2 on Thursday, we checked to our hotel once we got there and ate at Chili's. Yum!

Had to take one with the Vette!

On Friday, we decided to hike Harney Peak in Custer State Park. Here is the trailshead for Trail number 9 leaving from Sylvan lake. A little under 7 miles roundtrip.

We're going where? That was Chris' reaction when we got to this spot on the trail where you could see the lookout in the far far distance.

Yep, that's where we are going...

And finally at the top! Chris taking in the view.

Lovely view!

We packed in lunch and enjoyed it from the lookout tower.

A nice picture in the lookout tower.

The plaque on the lookout tower.

Us with the lookout tower.

The 'tunnel' up to the top. Just after taking this picture on the way down, I ran into Lindsay O. from college. She and her husband were also out for the long weekend. It was so random to run into her, but good to see her again!

The tunnel on the road to Sylvan lake. So neat to drive through, only 1 car at a time though. Chris had fun driving the Vette on this road since it was so curvy and it drives like it's on rails!

We still had some time to kill on Friday afternoon, and I had never been to Crazy Horse before, so we buzed down there to check it out. We watched the video about the carving of the mountain, then wandered around the facility for awhile before grabbing a quick snack. It was there that we saw Korczak Ziolkowski's (the original sculptor) wife, Ruth. Friday night the rest of the Grunewald clan showed up. We ate supper at the Firehouse Resturant in downtown Rapid City. It was a neat place to go and the food was pretty good.

Saturday morning the whole clan went to see Mount Rushmore. It's been awhile since any of us has seen the monument, so it was nice to see it again... and get a picture with my hubby!

We all enjoyed some delish ice cream at Mount Rushmore! Pecan Prailine, Strawberry Cheesecake, Cookies & Cream, and Mint! Yummy!

Then Saturday night, time for the real reason we were out there. Ashley & Tucker's wedding! We had a blast dancing the night away. Here's Michelle with the beautiful bride!

And I never get enough pictures of me and Michelle!

We headed back home on Sunday. On the way we stopped at Thunder Road outside Marion, SD to watch Kevin drag race. Unfortunately, he was already out for the day by the time we got there. It was fun to watch all the other cars still in the running though... Grabbed a quick shot of this car who liked to do 3 feet wheelies!

All in all it was a wonderful weekend with beautiful weather. Couldn't have been better!
